Quinton

Quinton has worked in social services for the last 16 years. Being in the service of others is one of his passions. For Quinton, it’s not just about helping those in need, it also keeps him grounded and appreciative of the good things in his life.

Before working at firsthand, Quinton held a similar role at a health insurance company, working to help find appropriate care for those who often sought care from the emergency room. His team was laid off, and Quinton joined firsthand.

Quinton is inspired by the individuals he serves who truly appreciate the assistance that they receive. A genuine “thank you” gives him gratification and motivates him to continue doing whatever he can to help. He is grateful for the freedom that he is given to help individuals in whatever way they need, without the red tape that typically can prevent a person from getting assistance in a timely manner.

His advice for people who are struggling with serious mental illness or substance use disorder is to just take it one minute, or even one second, at a time. Life isn't fair- it brings curveballs, fastballs, and unknowns. But with each moment, the best we can do is to try and take advantage of it to better ourselves.

Quinton has taken that advice to heart as he navigates a deep loss in his family. In 2022, he lost his wife, and his four children lost their mom. He focuses on acceptance and getting as much out of life as possible, because nothing’s guaranteed. Quinton is most proud of his children, who are bright and motivated to pursue their dreams. They remind him to keep moving forward.
