Community Resources Guide
Knoxville, TN
Keith's life's work has been dedicated to lifting others up, empowering them, and ensuring they feel supported. He has worked with the Amputee Coalition and with the State Department of Developmentally and Intellectually Disabled, where he helped adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Growing up, Keith witnessed the devastating effects of alcoholism within his family. He has tragically lost two loved ones to the disease, and is grateful that he has never struggled with addiction himself. Instead, he has devoted himself to his own health and well -being by making progress towards his personal physical and mental health goals.
When Keith heard about firsthand's unique approach to serving individuals with serious mental illness, he knew he had to be a part of it. Keith's colleague from a previous job reached out to him and asked him to apply for the role of Community Resources Guide in the newly opened Knoxville office. After learning more about the company's culture and mission, Keith knew that this was the place for him. firsthand has become his second home, a place where he feels valued and supported.
For Keith, the most rewarding part of his job is seeing the positive impact of the resources he provides. Even what appears to be the simplest of things can make a world of difference in someone's life. Keith is proud that firsthand enables its teams to support beyond just physical health needs and also support individuals' emotional needs. In a world where loneliness and isolation are all too common, Keith believes it's essential for individuals he serves to know that they have someone to turn to when they need human connection. It’s important to Keith to help individuals identify the ways they can empower themselves, and he loves to hear their success stories.
Keith's journey at firsthand has been one of growth and personal development. Becoming SOAR (SSDI/SSI Outreach, Access and Recovery) certified was a significant accomplishment, and he's grateful for the additional tools it has given him to help the individuals he serves. He sees his colleagues as more than just coworkers; they're his family, and he cherishes the relationships he has built with them.
When he's not working, Keith loves spending time with his three sons. Music, humor, and sarcasm are also a big part of his life, and he enjoys finding joy in the small things.
